First prize at Marienbad Film Festival
Lucy Fife Donaldson's audiovisual essay '(dis)Orienting horror: feeling queerly' was selected as joint winner of the Audiovisual essay competition at this year's Marienbad Film Festival (12-15th June, Mariánské Lázňe, Czech Republic). The jury (Kryštof kočtář, Magdaléna Kašparová, and Libertad Gills) split the award between Dr Donaldson and Dr Sadia Quraeshi Shepard (Wesleyan University) and her 'Shadow Self: On Agnès Varda’s Documenteur', with a special recognition to Dan O'Brien's 'The Allure and Threat of the Cine-Computer'. This was the third year in which the festival has run an Audiovisual Essay competition, curated by Veronika Hanáková and Jiří Anger. 14 audiovisual works were selected for competition this year, from audiovisual essayists across the world.
