Professor John H. Arnold, Bullough Fellow 2025-2026
John H. Arnold (University of Cambridge) will be joining the Department of Medieval History, School of History at the University of St Andrews as the Bullough Fellow in the academic year 2025-2026. He will be with us during the Martinmas semester, and will give a paper in the Medieval Studies Seminar Series and lead a workshop on a topic of his choice for our MLitt and PhD students.
Professor Arnold is an expert in medieval religion and culture, heresy and inquisition, as well as gender and sexuality. He has published numerous works, such as The Making of Lay Religion in Southern France, c. 1000-1350 (Oxford University Press, 2024), Belief and Unbelief in the Middle Ages (Bloomsbury, 2005), and Inquisition and Power: Catharism and the Confessing Subject in Medieval Languedoc (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2001).
